BCOP homes achieve excellent results in the Gold Standards Framework
Anita Stone Court in Moseley and Neville Williams House in Selly Oak, both operated by Birmingham charity BCOP, achieved accreditation after completing an intensive 18-month program of training, improvement and assessment.
Both homes passed their final assessments with flying colours. Neville Williams House achieved a perfect score of 77 out of 77, while Anita Stone Court achieved an excellent 70 out of 77—nine points above the pass mark of 61—and met every mandatory standard.
The Gold Standards Framework (GSF) is a national charity and the UK’s leading training provider for generalist staff delivering end of life care. Its program helps care teams identify changing needs early, plan ahead and provide proactive, personalised and well-coordinated support.
Independent assessors found that the framework had become firmly embedded in everyday practice at both homes, reflecting the contribution of colleagues across nursing, care, activities, catering, housekeeping, maintenance and administration.
At Neville Williams House, 96% of residents included in the assessment were able to die in the place they had chosen. At Anita Stone Court, the figure was 94%.
These results demonstrate how sensitive conversations, advance care planning and close working with families and healthcare professionals can help more residents remain in familiar surroundings, cared for by people they know and trust.

Through the GSF program, residents are supported, wherever possible, to express what matters to them and make informed choices about their future care. Their wishes are recorded in personalised plans, reviewed as circumstances change and shared appropriately with the healthcare professionals involved in their care.
BCOP will continue to monitor outcomes, listen to residents and families, and use feedback and reflective learning to improve its support. Both accredited homes will follow a three-year action plan to ensure that the framework remains firmly embedded in everyday practice.
BCOP’s third nursing home, Robert Harvey House, is approximately halfway through its own GSF program. The home was recently named Palliative Residential Care Provider of the Year 2026 at the national Palliative Care Awards.
Together, these achievements demonstrate BCOP’s organisation-wide commitment to helping older people live well throughout every stage of later life and receive compassionate, dignified and personalised support at the end of life.
