Kidanemariam, ACH Birmingham Tenant Wins 5K Race at Birmingham Running Festival
At ACH, we believe in creating opportunities that help refugees and migrants rebuild their lives, find stability, and pursue their passions. That’s why we are incredibly proud to share the story of Kidanemariam, an ACH tenant, who not only participated in the Birmingham Running Festival but also secured first place in the 5K race.
Life hasn’t been easy for Kidanemariam. Like many refugees, he had faced significant challenges, from adapting to a new country to navigating limited resources. Yet, instead of letting obstacles define him, he is working tirelessly to build a better future, and his victory in this race is an example of his determination.
Despite his struggles, Kidanemariam chose to run in support of Birmingham Children’s Hospital, showing that even in difficult times, he remains committed to helping others. His win wasn’t just about crossing the finish line first; it was about proving that strength, resilience, and kindness can shine through, no matter the circumstances.
Kidanemariam’s participation in the race was made possible through ACH, as we reached out to event organisers to secure an entry for him. His support officer identified this as a chance for him to showcase his talent, and he did exactly that. At ACH, we do more than just provide housing—we work to empower refugees and migrants by connecting them with opportunities that allow them to grow, thrive, and contribute to their communities. Whether it’s through education, employment, skills, or personal development, we believe in giving people the tools they need to succeed.
The Birmingham Running Festival, organised by RunThrough, aims to break barriers and give people from low-income backgrounds access to running events, training programs, and workshops. By participating, Kidanemariam not only took a step toward his own personal goals but also became part of a large mission—one that promotes mental wellbeing, physical fitness, and community support.
