Whitley Court – community living with BCOP
Thanks to Ian’s dedication, initiative, and ongoing involvement, Whitley Court has grown into more than a housing scheme.
When Ian Reid moved into Whitley Court over four years ago, he quickly set about making a difference. With a background in building and a passion for creating welcoming spaces, Ian wanted his home to be more than just a place to live — he wanted it to feel like a true community.
From the beginning, Ian showed a natural ability to listen to fellow residents and pass their feedback on to BCOP’s team. Whether it was sharing ideas with Tenancy Support Officers, talking through updates with the Property Services Manager, or liaising directly with the Executive Manager, Ian built strong and respectful relationships with staff. Over time, he became a trusted voice for his neighbours — ensuring that everyone felt heard.
One of Ian’s proudest achievements has been helping to transform the outdoor space. What was once underused is now a colourful and welcoming garden, thanks to his collaboration with BCOP’s gardener, Darren, and the support of other residents. Together, they’ve created a space that not only looks beautiful but also reflects the community spirit at the heart of Whitley Court. Ian even suggested the installation of rainwater barrels, making gardening more sustainable for the future.
Ian’s story reflects BCOP’s values of putting people first, encouraging collaboration, and building warm, close-knit communities where every resident can play a part. Thanks to his dedication, Whitley Court is more than a housing scheme — it’s a place where neighbours look out for one another and take pride in their shared home.
